The Murray River meanders through the southern edge of NSW, surrounded by a region known for its incredible food, scenery and friendly locals. An epicentre of culture, stories and experiences, the Murray River breathes life into the surrounding land. While the food, drinks and vineyards are well known, the lesser known gems of the Murray come in the form of the surrounding golf courses. With an emphasis on quality amenities and courses suited for all levels of experience, there is something for everyone.
The twists and turns of the river guide the fairways, with lush greens nourished by the surrounding ecosystem. You may even meet some friendly locals, with wildlife such as kangaroos often coming to join in a game or two.
We’ve bought together some highlights of the golf offering in this stunning region, to help you plan your next adventure.
Hit the greens on Mildura’s top golf courses
Wentworth Sporting Complex
The Wentworth Sporting Complex is set on 1.8 ha of lush, green land, it houses not only an 18-hole golf course, but 14 tennis courts and a bowls club as well. It is located next to the Old Wentworth Gaol and is known for its picturesque greens.
A challenging course, there are an array of lakes and an abundance of water (fitting for its proximity to the Murray River) to trap any wayward balls from unsuspecting novices.
Wentworth Sporting Complex Golf Club is volunteer run, with a licenced bar staffed with locals and golf enthusiasts, and hosts regular competition and social events. Cart hire is available for a small fee.
Mildura Golf Resort
Located only five minutes from the heart of Mildura, and a destination in itself, Mildura Golf Resort is created on red sand and has been carefully crafted as one of the most challenging courses in the region. It’s earned acclaim for immaculate greens, and is an enjoyable course for both the ambitious beginner and the expert alike who are keen to take on the championship layout.
The resort is also home to an array of golfing events, from charity tournaments, to competitions. These can be found on their website, and are regularly updated, as well as hosting a 360° virtual tour for you to take a look around their facilities before you visit.

Riverside Golf Club
A short 6km-drive outside of the city centre, positioned right on the banks of the Murray River, this course is an 18-hole delight of watered fairways and an abundance of native bushland. You’ll be greeted by local wildlife, in particular a range of birds, and if you’re particularly lucky, you’ll see some nesting waterbirds hiding amongst the billabongs.
A range of competitions and exhibition events are hosted regularly, with ‘Come and Try’ days open to the public. For members, there is an online portal to organise tee times, competition results, and for direct communication with the club.
The destination has a rich history, founded in 1935, and there is currently a project underway to collate and document the history of the club, perfect reading for golf history buffs.
Red Cliffs Golf Club
Red Cliffs Golf Club is set back from the banks of the Murray, although it is well worth mentioning for some of the great facilities available. They are RV friendly, with a camp kitchen and fire pits, as well as being pet friendly, so your furry friends can come along too. As well as a fully grassed 18-hole course, with cart hire available, they are home to a footgolf facility. Kick a soccer ball (also available for hire) through a 9 hole accredited course, with an emphasis on disability accessibility. Think golf, but with a twist!
The course is heavily community based, with footy tipping available on their website and a heavy emphasis on community events. It’s an ideal place to get to know the locals, with many of the RV enthusiasts hosting communal drinks around the fire pits.
